The Language Department of T.H.K. Jain College organized a programme on 20.02.20 commemorating International Mother Tongue Day. The programme was inaugurated by Respected Dr. Mausumi Singh (Sengupta), Principal of this College and the whole programme was conducted in a befitting way by Prof. Jhumur Mondal (Head of Dept., Bengali) and NSS programme officer and also Ms. Swati Sharma, Guest Professor, Hindi Dept. The programme was inaugurated jointly by the Respected Principal, Dr. Mausumi Singh and Professor Kiran Sipani, Faculty Member of the Hindi Dept. by lighting up the lamp and putting garland on the Martyrs' stand. Speeches, Songs, Recitation, Drama and Documentary Films were the main attraction in the day-long programme. Students from different Departments like Bengali, English, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Hindi respectively participated in the programme and shared their immense joy. Professor Debjani Som (Dept.of History) and Professor Moumita Marik (Dept. of Pol.sc.) and other teachers from Bengali, Hindi and English Dept. enriched the programme by their presence. Ramchandra Sonkar, a non-teaching staff of our College, put tireless effort to make the programme a success. There were 26 students and 4 teachers who participated. The participants in Singing were Bithi Mazumdar and Koushik Roy from Botany ; Poulami Karmakar, Shweta Sharma, Ritika Upadhyay and Rishav Jha from English ; Adrika Moulik and Shrayanti Sur from Microbiology Department also participated, Saranya from Microbiology Department, Anwesha Chakraborty, Tanumay Mukherjee, Chandrabali Sarkar, Madhurima Bhowmik, Prakriti Dey, Priyanka Shome, Hrishita Ghosh, Trisha Sil, Shrabani Banik from Zoology Department, Professor Mousumi Banerjee from Bengali Department ; Rimi Kumari, Khusbu Mishra, Riya Singh, Nazia Khatun from Hindi Department participated in Recitation and Drama.Students of English Department, Chandrabali Sarkar, Trisha sil, Biswadip Sarkar, Sandeepan Pal performed the Short Play. Professor Swara Thacker (English Dept.) demonstrated a Documentary on Mother Tongue Movement. Rohan Dhara of English Dept. delivered his speech on this movement. Undoubtedly the programme was unique and our College paid homage to the Martyrs of the Language Movement by organising this programme in the best way possible. The College conveys thanks to the participants, students, Professors and non-teaching staff without whom the programme couldn't be a success.
